CASTAÑER

The first Castañer workshop was founded by Luis Castañer and his cousin, Tomas Serra, in 1927 in Banolas, and has since then turned a shoe of popular origin into a sophisticated product, closely linked to design and fashion. One of the driving forces behind the first industrialization of the company, Tomas Serra designed the jute braiding machines that are still used in the workshop today, and they are responsible for a unique and artisanal braiding technique. In the 1970s, they made history in the world of fashion, when they met with Yves Saint Laurent and together created the first espadrille wedge. Today, after 90 years, their product has reached the whole world, but Castañer’s essence remains as authentic as it was in 1927: tradition, craftsmanship, and natural materials.
